Celebrities Who Served... See What a Certain Rock Star Claimed to Get Out of Enlistment!

Although we all know that there's many famous men and women that have served in the world's greatest military like Elvis Presley, there's many that are unknown for their enlistment. In honor of this year's 4th of July celebrations, let's take a look at who they are and what they did for this great country of ours!

Morgan Freeman joined the United States Air Force in 1955 with dreams of becoming a pilot. He even turned down an acting scholarship to Jackson State University. However, he was assigned the duty of radar technician and spent almost 4 years enlisted.

Before Bea Arthur was Dorothy on the Golden Girls, Bea was a United States Marine. Being one of the first women to serve in the "women's reserve" she held down such jobs as being a truck driver and typist for the USMC.

Hugh Hefner was a military journalist in the Army in 1944. In addition to writing for the newspaper, he also drew military comics. Apparently he was just as good with a gun as a pen too. He won the Military Sharp Shooter Award in Basic Training.

"Shaggy" who was known as Orville Burrell in the Marine Corp, served during Desert Storm and was "not a model Marine" by his own description. He claims that in spite of this lack of ability to hold up to the expectations of the Marine Corp, it did help him later on with his musical career due to an ability to have discipline.

Before Clint Eastwood was a tough guy in the movies, he was a tough guy in the United States Army. After being drafted in 1950, Eastwood even survived a military plane crash into the Pacific Ocean during the Korean War.

Fred Durst who was the front man of the musical group "Limp Bizkit" served in the Army and then became a tattoo artist when he was discharged from his service. Curiously, it is not stated whether or not it was an "honorable" or "dishonorable" discharge!

Robin Quivers of "The Howard Stern Show" was not only a nurse but also a Captain in the Air Force from 1975-1978. She also continued to serve in the Air Force Reserves until 1990.

Jimi Hendrix was "sentenced " to joining the Army by a judge for stealing cars in Seattle. However, one of Hendrix's biographers has made the claim that he got out after only serving for a year by disclosing to the higher ups that he had "homosexual tendencies" in an effort to shorten his length of service.

Paul Newman joined the Navy in hopes of becoming a pilot. However, he was color blind so he had to resort to being an aerial gunner. He was a highly decorated combat veteran and in 1946, he was discharged with a number of honors including the Good Conduct Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, the American Area Campaign Medal, and the World War II Victory Meda
